The first session of the Gandomin Introductory Fiction Writing Workshop was held online on October 18, 2026, attracting an enthusiastic response from 40 young women and other enthusiasts of literature and creative writing.

The workshop is led and taught by Shafiullah Zawar. Designed as a 14-session educational program, the workshop began by exploring one of the most fundamental concepts in a writer’s journey: the essentials of writing.

During the session, talent was defined not merely as an innate ability, but as valuable potential that can be developed through personal will and determination. Motivation was also examined as an internal and external driving force that enables writers to reflect on both their inner and outer worlds.

Another part of the session explored the subtle distinction between an initial, unprocessed feeling and emotion in fiction. Participants examined how a seemingly simple event can evoke different emotions—such as fear, anger, or excitement—depending on a character’s psychological world. The session concluded by emphasizing the writer’s worldview as the guiding compass of a story, shaping how events are perceived, interpreted, and transformed into meaningful narratives.

The energy and commitment demonstrated by participants in this first session provide a promising foundation for the continuation of the 14-session program. The workshop represents a valuable step toward nurturing emerging writers, encouraging creative expression, and enriching the literary landscape of fiction.

The educational content of this workshop will soon be broadcast as a radio program on Radio Gandomin and shared through Gandomin’s other social media platforms, making the discussions and lessons accessible to a wider audience.

Through this initiative, Gandomin aims to create opportunities for aspiring writers to develop their skills, deepen their understanding of storytelling, and discover new ways to transform their ideas and experiences into compelling works of fiction.

Previously, Gandomin had also organized short educational workshops on memoir writing and narrative writing for the capacity-building of girls.
